Since our airport MCA system, "Terrestrial Trunked Radio Service", is not affected by traffic congestion and call restriction on public telecom networks, it works well without any difficulties even in case of serious natural disasters. Just after the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred in 2011, we could hardly reach by public telephone services in most areas of eastern Japan. However, our MCA service survived and played an important role by supporting various operation tasks in Narita International Airport. In 2016, we have replaced the previous digital MCA systems by TETRA based system, using the latest standardized wireless technology, and improve the quality of service and the reachability. Even with the new TETRA system, we continuously operate it by 7 days a week and 24 hours a day and respond immediately to any unexpected troubles.

Nippon Airport Radio Services Co., Ltd. was established in 1977, ahead of opening of Narita International Airport. Since then, it has inherited “DNA” of a major telecom carrier group company and has been designing, constructing and operating the radio communication systems by itself for 40 years. Through this experience, we not only effectively utilize the radio wave which is the important asset of the nation to meet the required quality but also cultivate high technical ability to deploy the system adapted to the special environment of an airport.

The wireless terminal of the TETRA system has dramatically improved durability, water resistance, battery life, and so on from the previous one, and is demonstrating its capabilities in harsh environments including airport lamp areas. Meanwhile, customers engaged in business such as boarding information desk, require a lighter and more compact wireless one. In collaboration with Motorola Solutions, we carefully interviewed actual users in the airport and developed a terminal called ST7000 model reflecting their requests. Its stylish design and function have been highly praised by the customer and received the Good Design Award in Japan and Red Dot Design Award in 2017. We will continuously listen to the customer’s voice and make our system more user friendly.

We provide dedicated services at the airport as a telecommunications operator specializing in airports. We think that it is the most important basic stance to operate the services with the “user in airport-first” policy.

For example, in addition to an annual contract of our service, temporary contracts and short-term contracts are also available, so you can use it only for a limited period such as short-term airport construction or staff training. Since we provide radio terminals by rental service, we will promptly replace it if it is in trouble. When delivering radio equipment, our staff with qualification qualified in the airport restricted area will visit the customer’s site directly.

The call sign of the radio equipment in the airport is managed at our company to avoid duplication, and the state of radio wave at the airport is monitored by 7days a week and 24hours a day. For example, in the case of jamming radio waves, we investigate and identify the source of the interference, cooperate with national agencies to prevent the influence of airport operations. We are responsible for maintaining the quality of public radio waves at the airport.
