Launch of Smartphone Connection Option for Airport MCA Radio Service

October 28 2020
Nippon Airport Radio Services Co.,LTD. NAR

Nippon Airport Radio Services Co., Ltd., NAR, has started to provide an optional service that enables users to talk to the airport MCA radio using their smartphones regardless of their location. This service enables teleworkers to monitor the status of their work at the airport and communicate instructions to the person in charge.

The airport MCA radio service is a highly reliable communication infrastructure provided in major airports, supporting various airport operations such as airport management, ground handling, and ground control. On the other hand, the spread of the COVID-19 has led to an increase in the number of companies adopting telework, and there has been a need for a communication environment that enables managers working from home to monitor the situation at the airport and communicate instructions in case of emergency.

NAR has been upgrading the MCA radios at Narita, Naha, and Chubu airports to the TETRA system. Now, utilizing TETRA's interconnection function, NAR has built a network facility that enables users to talk to the airport MCA radios using their mobile carrier's smartphones. By installing the "WAVE" application provided by Motorola Solutions, Inc. on their smartphones or tablets and logging in to their assigned accounts, users will be able to monitor their assigned call groups and make calls.

NAR will continue to utilize the various functions of TETRA to enhance the convenience of users and to respond to the working style in the new normal era of the airline industry.

*This optional service is available to customers who have subscribed to NAR's airport MCA wireless service.
*"WAVE" is a product name of Motorola Solutions, Inc.
